How the pacing zones work
The ReveIQ LOS Clock divides every case into three pacing zones based on its position relative to the DRG's geometric mean length of stay. Each zone signals a different clinical and revenue-cycle action.
0–70% · On track
Standard review cadence. No pacing concern.
70–100% · Approaching GML
Final opportunity window. Focus CDI review here.
100%+ · Over GML
Extended stay. Check for undocumented CC/MCC.
Why GML matters for CDI
Geometric mean length of stay is more than a utilization metric, it's a documentation signal. When a case exceeds GML without a clear clinical reason, it often means the acuity wasn't fully captured. Missing CC/MCC codes, unreported comorbidities, and under-documented severity all correlate with LOS overruns.

The ReveIQ LOS Clock makes this signal visible in real time so specialists can intervene at the 70% mark, the window where queries can still shift the final coded record before discharge.
